Jilted lover kills girlfriend in Koforidua

In the suburb of Trom, located in the Eastern Region, a tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, June 17, 2023, where a jilted lover allegedly killed his girlfriend. The incident took place at Junction 5 in the Trom community.

According to reports, the victim had been in the process of breaking up with the suspect and had recently moved to her current location. Witnesses in the house where the incident occurred stated that the suspect visited his girlfriend while a naming ceremony was taking place.

During the celebration, the girlfriend, believed to be 23 years old, went outside to meet the suspect and brought him into her room. It is alleged that amidst the noise of the naming ceremony, the suspect killed the victim, making it difficult for anyone to hear her screams for help.

Witnesses claim that the suspect engaged in a struggle with the victim and then forcefully placed a piece of cloth in her mouth before slitting her throat. Later that evening, the suspect, who is in his 30s, reported himself to the police. He was wearing a red shirt with the inscription ‘Rest In Peace’ on the back.

After assessing the crime scene, the police retrieved the victim’s body, which was deposited at the morgue. The community experienced escalating anger and tension, as some enraged individuals gathered at the scene, threatening to attack the suspect. To diffuse the situation, the police swiftly escorted the suspect away in a taxi.
