The Controller and Accountant General’s Department of Ghana has for some time now been making great efforts to build and deliver a safe, secure payroll system for all public sector workers in the country.
In this regard, it has issued a public notice urging all existing and prospective government workers to ensure that they are all registered with the NIA card (Ghana Card) and have obtained their identity numbers. The Communications Ministry has already indicated that the laws specify the Ghana Card as the sole form of identification verification in the country.
This according to the department is to reduce the risk of undeserving payments or claims by building a secure database that will harmonise the biometric and unique identification of all workers on the government payroll.
This notice takes effect from the 1st of December 2021.
